Burkina Faso to inaugurate 400 kg per day gold refinery in Ouagadougou

Burkina Faso is set to inaugurate its first gold refinery, named Raffinor BF, in Ouagadougou on Monday, September 28, 2026. The facility is expected to have a processing capacity of up to 400 kilograms of gold per day.

The project, located in Ouaga 2000 on a five-hectare site, includes an analysis laboratory, a foundry, storage facilities, and a jewelry workshop. It will also house the headquarters of the National Precious Substances Company.

The foundation stone for the refinery was laid on November 23, 2023, by President Ibrahim Traoré. The authorities aim to process a larger share of the country’s gold production domestically, as a significant portion of Burkinabé gold has previously been refined abroad.

Burkina Faso is among the leading gold producers in West Africa. The commissioning of Raffinor BF is expected to enhance local operations for processing, monitoring, and adding value to the precious metal.

The inauguration is part of the government’s strategy to increase the state’s presence in the mining sector and capture more value from the resources extracted within the country.
