Ouattara appoints widow of Hamed Bakayoko to Constitutional Council
The lawyer joins the court responsible for overseeing laws and elections. Two magistrates are appointed alongside her, while leadership changes also occur at the Superior Council of the Judiciary and the Attorney General's office.
Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara has appointed Yolande Nda Tano Bakayoko, a lawyer and widow of former Prime Minister Hamed Bakayoko, as a counselor to the Constitutional Council. Her six-year term will commence on October 1, 2026, according to a presidential statement released on September 23.
Ali Yeo and Mamadou Diakité, both non-hierarchical magistrates, will also join the court. The Constitutional Council is responsible for overseeing the eligibility of presidential candidates, electoral disputes, and ensuring that laws comply with the Constitution. Counselors take an oath before assuming their duties, and their terms are not renewable.
Decrees signed on the same day also appoint Kadjo Fodjo Abo as the president of the Superior Council of the Judiciary. He previously served as the Inspector General of Judicial and Penitentiary Services.
Théodore René François Kouassi Komoin has been appointed as the Attorney General at the Court of Cassation and the Council of State.
