Egypt opens applications for 25,000 housing units, including 15,000 for low-income households

Egypt will open applications on Sunday, September 20, for 25,000 public housing units spread across various governorates and new cities. The program combines simple rental and rental with an option to buy, with a portion of 15,000 units designated for low-income households.

Of the total, 10,000 housing units are being offered by the New Urban Communities Authority under a rent-to-own scheme. Approximately 5,000 units are already completed, while another 5,000 are yet to be constructed. The remaining 15,000 units fall under the Social Housing Fund and real estate financing as part of the “Housing for All Egyptians 9” initiative.

For the 15,000 social housing units, individuals with disabilities can submit their applications from September 20 to September 27. Applications will then be open to all eligible individuals from September 28 to October 28. For the 10,000 units in new cities, applications will be accepted from September 20 to October 19 via the Maskan platform.

The segment aimed at low-income households sets the age of applicants between 21 and 35 years and caps the household’s net monthly income at 16,000 Egyptian pounds. The Fund offers rental assistance of up to 100,000 pounds over the lease term, depending on the beneficiary’s income and the size of the housing unit. A portion of 5% of the units is reserved for individuals with disabilities who meet the criteria.

The 15,000 rental units include 8,464 units in the governorates, 3,256 in new cities, and 3,280 housing units developed under the “Decent Life” initiative. The program particularly targets young people and new households who are not yet able to access home ownership directly.

The housing units offered by the New Urban Communities Authority are distributed across several new cities and vary in size. Applicants must meet the conditions of each program, and the allocation of eligible housing units will be determined by a public lottery when the number of applications exceeds the available units.
