In Gabon, 1,299 public agents dismissed after biometric census
Following the review of 1,762 cases from the biometric and administrative census, the Gabonese government confirmed 1,299 dismissals and 116 reinstatements. The state estimates that regularization will save nearly 11 billion FCFA annually.
The Gabonese government confirmed on Friday, September 18, 2026, in Port-Gentil the dismissal of 1,299 public agents following the review of 1,762 cases indicating irregular situations as a result of the biometric and administrative census of the public service.
Specifically, 589 agents were dismissed while retaining their pension rights, 110 were dismissed without retaining these rights, and 600 were classified as non-permanent workers. The Exceptional Commission for Public Service Disputes also announced 116 reinstatements.
The government estimates that regularizing these situations will save the state nearly 11 billion FCFA annually. This amount corresponds to the expected effects of updating the administrative situations reviewed by the commission.
The commission also issued opinions on disciplinary sanctions, contract terminations, and various administrative positions. The Council of Ministers has instructed the relevant administrations to implement the decisions, notify the affected agents, and update the corresponding management records.
