Criet: a police officer on trial for abuse of power

The Court for the Repression of Economic Offenses and Terrorism (Criet) opened, on Monday, June 23, 2025, the investigation of case Criet/2025/RP/0322, involving four people charged in an abuse of office case.

At the hearing on this Monday, the prosecution presented its requisitions based on the degree of involvement of each of the defendants.

One of them, a police officer, is accused of acting outside any official mission framework, in violation of the ethical rules of his profession. The prosecution has requested a two-year prison sentence, along with a fine of five million CFA francs, for aggravated abuse of office.

Regarding the three other accused, the prosecution has proposed a one-year prison sentence and two million CFA francs in fines for two of them and six months of firm imprisonment for the last one.

After the prosecution’s requisitions, the Criet decided to deliberate its judgment. The verdict is expected on July 21, 2025.
