EuroVolley 2026: Poland defeats France 3-1 to secure spot at 2028 Olympics
Defending champions Poland triumphed over France in four sets in the EuroVolley men's final. They retain their crown and secure a direct European spot for the Los Angeles Games.
A hard-fought first set, won 31-29, set Poland on the path to victory on Saturday, September 26, at the Unipol Forum in Assago, near Milan. The defending champions then took the second set 25-19 before closing out the final in the fourth.
France responded in the third set, winning 25-20, but could not extend the match further. The Polish team regained control in the final set, winning 25-16, to seal their victory 3-1 after 115 minutes of play.
Mathis Henno finished as the top scorer of the match with 20 points, followed by his teammate Théo Faure, who scored 18 points. On the Polish side, Bartłomiej Bołądź contributed 16 points, while Wilfredo León and Tomasz Fornal each added 13 points, according to the official CEV score sheet.
This victory allows Poland to retain the title they won in 2023 and secures a direct European spot for the Olympic tournament in Los Angeles 2028. France leaves with the silver medal, bringing their total number of medals in the Men’s European Championship to eight.
Both finalists advanced from the semifinals the previous day: France defeated Finland 3-1, while Poland dominated Slovenia 3-0.
