Benin: Wilfried Léandre Houngbédji finally unveils his political party
The Deputy Secretary General and spokesperson for the government, Wilfried Léandre Houngbédji, officially announced, on Friday, June 20, 2025, his membership in a political party of the current administration.

Wilfried Léandre Houngbédji finally reveals his political party. The disclosure was made during a media outing, thus lifting the veil on his political family. “My first political party is Benin. But I am card-carrying UPR,” affirmed the government spokesman.
During this event, Wilfried Léandre Houngbédji clarified that, although he has never been an on-the-ground activist leading political crowds, he is nonetheless a committed player.
The Progressive Union – The Renewal, headed by Joseph Djogbénou, is one of the main parties of the presidential movement today, boasting a significant number of elected members. Born from the fusion of the Progressive Union and other groups, including the Democratic Renewal Party (PRD), the UPR represents a significant political force today.
