Benin: Suspected criminal arrested 15 months after the acid murder of a widow
The officers of the Paouignan district police station, in the municipality of Dassa-Zoumè, have arrested a man who has been actively sought for over a year for a crime of rare cruelty.

According to police authorities, the suspect allegedly used a romantic relationship as bait to carry out his macabre plan. The events date back to early 2024 in the town of Zoungoudo Assianmè, in the Collines Department.
The victim, a widow and mother of three, was reportedly asked out by the individual. However, this supposed romantic moment quickly turned into a nightmare: the man allegedly made her ingest acid before fleeing on his Haojue 110 brand motorcycle with the sum of 300,000 FCFA.
Despite the efforts of the rescue team, the victim, who was severely burned, did not survive. Sought for over 15 months, the alleged perpetrator of this premeditated homicide was finally located and apprehended by the police. He will appear in the coming days before the public prosecutor to answer for his actions.
