Benin: General Bertin Bada breaks his silence about the death of his wife
General Bertin Bada broke his silence for the first time since his wife’s death, which occurred during the failed coup on December 7, 2025.

This statement took place on Friday, December 19, during a condolence visit from the Constitutional Court led by its president, Dorothé Sossa.
In front of the members of the high court, the director of the presidential military cabinet spoke emotionally about the loss of his wife, Berthe Bada, who died during the events linked to the mutiny.
In a calm voice but marked by the ordeal, he said he had lost an essential support, a partner of several decades with whom he had built his life.
He stressed the brutality of this loss and the deep void it leaves within his family.
On behalf of the Constitutional Court, Dorothé Sossa expressed the institution’s solidarity and offered the condolences of the court’s justices to the bereaved family. The president of the Court recalled that this death occurred in a context of high institutional tension, while stressing the human dimension of the tragedy.
He paid tribute to the memory of the deceased and assured the general of the Court’s moral support during this ordeal.
General Bertin Bada thanked his hosts for the gesture, which he described as comforting in an especially trying moment.
