Women’s World Cup 2027: seven nations already qualified for the intercontinental play-offs
Ghana and South Africa have joined the intercontinental playoffs for the 2027 Women’s World Cup after their respective victories against Ivory Coast and Nigeria. Both African teams will have to go through a first round before trying to secure one of the last three spots for the World Cup.
At least seven nations have already confirmed their spots for the intercontinental playoffs of the 2027 Women’s World Cup, which will determine the last teams qualified for the tournament. Ghana and South Africa notably secured their qualification on Thursday. The Black Queens eliminated Ivory Coast, while Banyana Banyana triumphed over Nigeria. Both African teams will need to go through the first round of the playoffs, where they will face one of the following teams: Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan, Ecuador, Venezuela, or Papua New Guinea.
At the end of this first phase, only two teams will qualify for the next round. They will then face four nations from UEFA, OFC, and CONMEBOL, who are exempt from the first round and qualified for the decisive phase. The six teams still in contention will be divided into three groups. In each group, a knockout match will determine the winner.
At the end of this phase, the three winning teams will secure the last three spots for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. The global tournament, which will bring together the best women’s teams from around the world, will thus know its final qualifiers after these intercontinental playoffs.
