PL: Xabi Alonso tipped to become Chelsea’s next manager
In search of a new coach after the departure of Liam Rosenior, Chelsea would have made Xabi Alonso their priority. The Blues are exploring multiple avenues to move on and relaunch a sporting project that has been losing momentum.

Xabi Alonso would appear to be the main favorite to take Chelsea’s helm, according to information from talkSPORT. The London club’s executives want to quickly appoint Liam Rosenior’s successor in order to approach the 2026 World Cup with a new sporting project already in place. Free since his departure from Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso would already have had initial talks with the Blues. The profile of the former Spanish international would particularly appeal to Chelsea’s management, eager to install a coach capable of delivering a strong playing identity and lasting stability.
Other technicians nevertheless feature on the English club’s short-list. Marco Silva, currently on the Fulham FC bench, as well as Andoni Iraola, who has just left AFC Bournemouth, remain options being studied internally. The names of Oliver Glasner, at Crystal Palace FC, and Filipe Luís, who recently passed through Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, are also circulating around the London club. Filipe Luís had already been linked with Chelsea before Rosenior’s appointment. At the time, several discussions had notably focused on a possible arrival at RC Strasbourg Alsace, another club linked to the BlueCo galaxy, before the choice ultimately fell on Gary O’Neil.
