Luxembourg commits 9.8 billion FCFA to port job training in Benin

Luxembourg has committed 15 million euros, equivalent to over 9.8 billion FCFA, to develop training for port and logistics jobs in Benin. The protocol for the CAP-PORT project was signed in New York on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

According to the Beninese government, the program targets young people and women aged 18 to 35 seeking employment, unskilled individuals, and workers looking to update their skills. The goal is to enhance training offerings and facilitate integration into port and logistics activities.

The announced training will cover the operation and maintenance of handling equipment and vehicles, safety, document compliance, and the use of digital systems. The initiative will rely on a dedicated space for developing these skills.

The protocol was signed for Benin by Hugues Oscar Lokossou, the Minister of Economy and Finance responsible for mobilizing external resources and managing debt, and for Luxembourg by Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel. The government estimates the active portfolio of bilateral cooperation at approximately 95 million euros, with the CAP-PORT envelope representing nearly 16%.

The official publication does not specify the number of beneficiaries, the location of the future training space, the start date, the duration of the programs, or the disbursement schedule. Therefore, the signing establishes a commitment to funding without demonstrating that the full 15 million euros has already been disbursed.
