José Mourinho is said to have set two major demands for a possible return to Real Madrid this summer. He has been strongly linked with the Spanish capital after another disappointing season, and the Portuguese coach would like to have a central role in the club’s sporting rebuild, Madrid having not won a major trophy in the last two seasons.
The former Real coach intends to weigh in on recruitment policy. Not necessarily naming specific names, Mourinho would demand the ability to influence transfer priorities and the areas to strengthen. In his view, the current squad would show several imbalances in key areas of the pitch.
Second requirement: total autonomy in managing the locker room and the coaching staff. The Portuguese would want to work in a clearly defined framework, with a respected hierarchy and no external interference in day-to-day sporting decisions. Faithful to his method, Mourinho believes that the stability of the first team comes from an environment under his direct control, in order to avoid any disruption that could weaken the group.
