According to Agence Ecofin, this financing targets the Beninese section of the Cotonou–Lomé corridor, a strategic route connecting the Cotonou metropolitan area to the Benin–Togo border, and integrated into the Abidjan–Lagos regional corridor.

The project includes converting it to 2 × 2 lanes, improving drainage works, road safety and related facilities, in order to ease traffic flow and reduce congestion, particularly around the border area.

This intervention is part of a regional program to modernize West African road corridors, implemented with the support of several technical and financial partners, including the African Development Bank (BAD) and UEMOA, with the aim of facilitating trade and strengthening regional integration between Benin and Togo.
