Champions League: Barcelona crush Feyenoord 5-1, Raphinha scores twice

The FC Barcelona kicked off their Champions League campaign with a resounding 5-1 victory over Feyenoord on Wednesday, 9 September at the Spotify Camp NouRaphinha scored a brace in the 3th and 57th minutes, Karim Adeyemi found the net in the 22th, Lamine Yamal in the 77th, and Gabriel Jesus in the 85th. Barça took control almost immediately. Played into the box, Raphinha beat two defenders before opening the scoring in the third minute. Karim Adeyemi then doubled the lead in the 22th with a curling shot from outside the area, marking his first European appearance for the Catalan club. Barcelona led 2-0 at halftime.

The decisive turning point came in the 57th minute. Pedri set Raphinha through centrally, and the Brazilian finished with his left foot to make it 3-0. Two minutes later, Feyenoord thought they had reduced the deficit through Nacho Ferri, but the goal was disallowed for offside after review.

Lamine Yamal then converted a direct free kick in the 77th minute for Barcelona’s fourth goal. Feyenoord responded through Sem Steijn five minutes later, but Barcelona quickly restored their four-goal advantage. Coming on late in the match, Gabriel Jesus redirected a cross from Yamal in the 85th minute to score his first goal for Barça.

Raphinha was the main architect of the win with his two goals, while Yamal finished the evening with a goal and two assists. The Brazilian captain has now scored in each of Barcelona’s first five matches this season, confirming his prolific start to the campaign.

This victory gives FC Barcelona their first three points in the group stage and a goal difference of +4 after the opening matchday. Feyenoord leaves Catalonia empty-handed after being outplayed in the decisive moments of the game.
