Benin’s 2026 presidential election: the MPL officially backs the Wadagni–Talata ticket

At the close of the council, the party announced its official backing for the Wadagni–Talata ticket in the April 2026 presidential election.

The proceedings also provided an opportunity to launch the “New Social Pact for the Development of Benin.” This initiative aims to bring together political forces, young people, women and civil society actors around a shared vision centred on collaboration, innovation and the overhaul of public action.

During the discussions, party members from every department expressed their determination to break with the inertia that, in their view, has held back the party’s momentum in recent years. The central theme, “Uniting to Succeed,” set the tone for a renewed mobilisation and a drive for political impact grounded in openness and strategic coherence.

Seven resolutions were adopted to support this new momentum. They cover, among other things, active preparation for the 2026 presidential election and a firm resolve to make the Wadagni–Talata ticket “the ticket of rectification.”

The MPL has decided to give its full support to the two candidates. The party bases this choice on the New Social Pact and on a platform of corrective proposals designed to strengthen the foundations of national development. Members and supporters are invited to embrace this renewed vision, conceived as a basis for collective mobilisation beyond traditional political divides.

A membership charter will soon be made available to allow political parties, movements, public figures and civil society organisations to join this initiative. The MPL’s Directoire has been mandated to hold direct talks with the Wadagni–Talata ticket to refine the shared roadmap.

A nationwide tour is also being considered to popularise the platform of corrective proposals and build broad support around the party’s project. The goal is to build upward momentum that will carry the ticket through to the vote.

For Expérience Tèbé, this direction embodies a fresh start. The MPL now wants to establish itself as a key player in the country’s political transformation, with the ambition of contributing to sustainable and inclusive development. The coming months will be decisive as Benin enters an intense phase of the electoral process.
