Benin secures 5 medals in Uganda, eyes BWF World Championship
Following the men's triples title, Beninese players added two more silvers in doubles and a bronze in mixed. The country has also qualified for the 2026 BWF World Championship.
Benin concluded the 2026 African AirBadminton Championships with five medals, including one gold, three silver, and one bronze. The Beninese delegation also secured its spot for the 2026 BWF World Championship.
The gold medal came from the men’s triples. Oswald Fano-Dosh, Carlos Kpanou, Julien Totin, and Preferet Adomahou defeated Mauritius 3-0 in the final to claim the continental title in this event.
Two additional finals brought silver medals to Benin. In men’s doubles, Oswald Fano-Dosh and Carlos Kpanou lost 2-3 to Egypt. In the women’s category, Flora Kpogbemabou and Anna Gladys Akakpo also fell 2-3, this time against Burkina Faso.
The Beninese team had already secured silver in the team event. In mixed doubles, Fano-Dosh and Akakpo added a bronze after their 2-3 defeat to Uganda in the semifinals. This performance brings Benin’s total to five podium finishes throughout the competition.
The African AirBadminton Championships took place in Entebbe, Uganda. The African Badminton Confederation had announced participation from 14 countries and over 120 competitors for this continental edition.
