World Cup 2026: Gavi sees Messi’s Argentina win the trophy

The Barça midfielder, Gavi, has expressed his admiration for Lionel Messi’s Argentina, whom he regards as the main favorite to win the 2026 World Cup. The young Spanish international played 77 minutes in the Clasico, which Barça won 2-0 against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou, a victory that allowed the Blaugranas to retain their Liga crown for the second consecutive season.

Asked by D Sports, in remarks relayed by All About Argentina on X, Gavi was invited to share his view on the contenders for the next World Cup. Absent during Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph due to a serious injury, the 21-year-old player now hopes to regain his place with La Roja as the world tournament approaches. Despite Spain’s status as European champions, Gavi does not see his national team as the outright favorite. For him, Argentina remains a step ahead thanks to Messi’s presence.

“Argentina is the big favorite because it is the reigning world champion,” the Barça man said. “ Leo Messi remains the best player in the world. As long as he is on the pitch, Argentina will be the best team,” he added. Meanwhile, Lionel Messi continues to write his legend in Major League Soccer. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner recently surpassed the 100 offensive contributions in league play after scoring a goal and providing two assists in Inter Miami CF’s 4-2 victory over Toronto FC. The Argentine reached this total in just 64 regular-season matches, erasing the old record held by Sebastian Giovinco with a 31-match head start.
