World Cup 2026: Alex Iwobi believes Nigeria will qualify
Fulham attacking midfielder Alex Iwobi says he is convinced that Nigeria’s Super Eagles will clinch their ticket to the 2026 World Cup, despite a qualifying campaign littered with obstacles.

After a difficult start to the campaign, Nigeria managed to secure a spot in the African zone play-offs, finishing second in Group C, just behind South Africa. Under the guidance of Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles rediscovered cohesion and some momentum at the crucial moment.
On November 13, Iwobi’s teammates will face the Gabon Panthers in Rabat (Morocco) in the play-off semi-final, with the clear objective of claiming one of the precious tickets to the 2026 World Cup. Interviewed by CNN, the former Arsenal and Everton player sounded confident about his national team’s chances:
«We managed to pull ourselves back from the brink», he said. «We know we have the players and the ability to compete with any team in the world.» Iwobi did not fail to underline the quality of Nigeria’s talent pool:
«We have in our ranks last year’s African Player of the Year, Ademola Lookman, and the one from the previous year, Victor Osimhen. It would be a shame not to qualify, but we are very confident. Now we just have to prove it.»
The Super Eagles, five-time World Cup qualifiers, intend to keep the tradition alive. For Alex Iwobi, the mission is clear: bring Nigeria back among the giants of world football in 2026.
