Women’s AFCON 2026 (Q): Benin Football Federation reacts to the Amazons’ elimination
The Benin Football Federation reacted to the Amazones’ campaign in the qualifying phase for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. And the FBF praised the performance of the Beninese players despite their elimination.

SUMMARY
The Benin Football Federation (FBF) congratulated the women’s national team after their 1-1 draw with Nigeria on Tuesday 28 October in Abeokuta, in the return leg of the final round of qualifying for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Against the reigning African champions, the Amazones put in a solid performance, managing to hold the Super Falcons to a draw on their home turf. Despite this display, Benin will not reach the final tournament due to their 0-2 loss in the first leg.
In an official statement, the FBF hailed a result “the fruit of the courageous reforms” undertaken under the presidency of Mathurin de Chacus, notably through the structuring and regularity of the D1, D2 and D3 women’s championships, seen as real talent pools for Beninese women’s football.
Secretary General Claude Paqui, signatory to the document, expressed the Federation’s gratitude to coach Abdoulaye Ouzérou, his staff and all the players for “an encouraging performance pointing to a promising future”. “Congratulations to everyone! Together, let’s go further,” the statement concludes.
