White House: Judge reinstates CNN, MS NOW, and Politico for 14 days
The measure temporarily suspends the ban imposed by Donald Trump on September 18. The judge believes the three media outlets have a strong chance of proving that their credentials were revoked without due process.
Federal Judge Timothy Kelly ordered the Trump administration on Thursday, September 24, to immediately restore the press credentials of CNN, MS NOW, and Politico at the White House. His temporary order, valid for 14 days, suspends the ban while the appeal filed by the three media outlets is reviewed.
The judge found that the plaintiffs had a strong likelihood of success on their argument based on the right to due process. He also determined that the record did not contain any factual evidence showing that the return of their journalists would threaten national security, a claim made by the U.S. Department of Justice.
Donald Trump had announced the exclusion of the three news organizations on September 18, accusing them of spreading false information. Their credentials were subsequently deactivated. CNN, MS NOW, and Politico took legal action, citing press freedom and the lack of an opportunity to contest the measure before it was implemented.
The order does not resolve the underlying dispute. The White House had not immediately responded to the ruling.
