Ghanaian TikTok influencer Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, known as Ghana Jollof, challenged the government on Sunday, September 20, to secure her extradition from the United Kingdom, just three days after being declared wanted by police in an investigation into allegedly inciting and false publications.

In a TikTok exchange, she argued that British authorities would not allow her extradition if the process, in her view, constituted political persecution. She stated that she could voluntarily return to Ghana but disputed Accra’s ability to compel her return through this means.

The Ghanaian police declared Barbara Asantewaa Kodua wanted on September 17. The service accuses her of using the Ghana Jollof account to publish content that investigators believe could incite fear and violence. In one of the videos cited by the police, she claimed that an attempted coup had nearly occurred at Jubilee House. The police present this claim as false.

On September 18, Lydia Yaako Donkor, the Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department, detailed the investigation during a press briefing. She indicated that the inquiries link the account to Salomey Awiti Bafoh, a nurse who is currently in custody following her arrest and is being prosecuted for complicity in the publication of false information. She is scheduled to appear again on September 30.

The police also stated that examinations of phones, recordings, and mobile money transactions revealed financial transfers between several individuals, including supporters described as influential. These elements remain allegations from the investigation and have not been established by a judgment. Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, for her part, contests the accusations and rejects the connection that investigators make with the nurse.

The police indicated on September 18 that the investigation is ongoing to identify other individuals suspected of participating in the dissemination of the videos and the alleged financial support for these activities.
