Ukraine: Eight killed in Russian strikes, maternity hospital damaged in Kyiv
The hospital remained open and its patients were unharmed. In the Kharkiv region, a farm and a warehouse were struck.
Eight people were killed on Thursday, September 24, during a wave of Russian strikes against Ukraine, according to Ukrainian authorities. Two deaths were reported in Kyiv and six others in the Kharkiv region.
In the capital, eight others were also injured. The facade, windows, and doors of a maternity hospital were damaged. No patients or staff were harmed. One of the victims was killed in the hospital’s parking lot.
The medical management of the maternity hospital informed the Ukrainian media outlet UNN that nine babies were born there overnight, including one boy who was delivered in the underground shelter during the explosions. The facility, which was caring for 71 patients, continued its operations.
In the Kharkiv region, the strikes hit a farm and a vegetable warehouse. Six people were killed and twelve injured, according to regional prosecutors cited by Reuters.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that 282 drones and missiles were launched during the attack. It claims to have destroyed or neutralized 227 of them. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that it targeted defense industry facilities, logistical and telecommunications infrastructure, as well as Ukrainian military vessels.
