UCL: Wayne Rooney criticizes Arsenal’s celebrations after they qualified
Qualified for the Champions League final, Arsenal celebrated their success against Atlético Madrid at length. The celebrations were deemed “excessive” by Wayne Rooney, despite the Gunners’ performance.

Wayne Rooney did not entirely enjoy the scenes of jubilation observed after Arsenal’s qualification for the Champions League final. Beating Atlético Madrid (2-1 on aggregate), the Gunners secured their ticket thanks to a Bukayo Saka goal, scored late in the first half of the return leg at the Emirates Stadium. The draw obtained in the away leg in Spain (1-1) had left all options open before this outcome favorable to the Londoners.
At the final whistle, players and supporters celebrated the feat at length, turning the London venue into a real cauldron. A fervor that did not escape Rooney, who won the competition in 2008 with Manchester United, but who remained measured. “They haven’t won it yet. The celebrations seemed a bit excessive to me. Of course you should savor it, but… they earned their qualification,” he told Prime Video. Arsenal now awaits to learn its opponent in the final, which will come from the duel between Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
