TICAD 9: Romuald Wadagni expected in Tokyo on July 11th
The 9th edition of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) will be held from August 20 to 22, 2025, in Yokohama, Japan. Benin is among the countries that the Japanese government will be honoring at this event, indicative of the strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.

In anticipation of this major international gathering, the Beninese Minister of Economy and Finance, Romuald Wadagni, is expected in Tokyo on July 11, 2025. He will be leading strategic discussions with Japanese officials, particularly around key aspects of economic partnership. These discussions are expected to lead to partnership agreements and a deepening of Japanese investments in Benin.
Japan, viewing Cotonou as a strategic hub to access the West African market, has recently reaffirmed its growing interest in the country, praising the economic reforms initiated by the Beninese government and the nation’s political stability.
For the record, Benin had already marked its presence at the preparatory ministerial meeting for TICAD 9, held in August 2024 in Tokyo, through a delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olushegun Adjadi Bakari.
This diplomatic and economic dynamic anticipates new prospects for cooperation between Japan and Benin, especially in the fields of infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and technical training.
