Senegal: Monday declared a paid holiday to celebrate the crowning of the Lions of Teranga.
The Senegalese president, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, declared “paid holiday” on Monday to celebrate the Teranga Lions’ crowning, CAN 2025 champions after their 1-0 victory over Morocco on Sunday night.
As the Teranga Lions’ leading supporter, Bassirou Diomaye Faye also celebrated the crowning of his ambassadors, winners of their second Africa Cup of Nations title after their victory over Morocco in the CAN 2025 final. After a surreal match, Sadio Mané’s teammates finally clinched the Grail. An achievement made possible thanks to Pape Gueye, the author of the match’s only goal.
And to prolong this popular jubilation, the Senegalese president declared Monday a public holiday across the entire country. “In the face of this popular jubilation, I would like to tell you that Monday will be a paid day off”, Faye said enthusiastically on television. The day before, the head of state and his Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, were seen watching the match together, sharing the emotion and fervor of an entire people
