Real Madrid closes the door on José Mourinho’s return.
Despite his expected presence for the clash against Benfica and the recent controversy surrounding his remarks about Vinícius Júnior, José Mourinho is not among the options being considered by Real Madrid’s management.
Real Madrid does not envisage a return of José Mourinho to its bench, according to information from the Spanish daily AS. The Portuguese coach is set to watch from the stands the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg between Real Madrid and Benfica, scheduled for Wednesday evening. But a possible comeback at the Santiago Bernabéu would not be on the agenda.
In recent days, the Portuguese coach has also made headlines after his remarks about the alleged racist incident aimed at Vinícius Júnior during the away leg. Mourinho had said that the celebrations by the Brazilian, who scored the match’s only goal, could have inflamed the reaction of the opposing supporters — remarks that drew strong reactions in Spain.
Internally, Real Madrid’s management maintains its trust in Álvaro Arbeloa, despite the setback suffered in Pamplona last weekend. If the club continues to monitor the coaching market closely, Mourinho’s name would not figure among the options being considered.
