Nigerian Senator Ned Nwoko publicly reacted to the arrest of Ann Izuegbu Anthonet, described as a close associate of his former partner, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels. The case went viral after Daniels denounced on social media, on January 14, what she described as an abusive arrest of her friend.

In response, Nwoko’s communications team firmly disputed this version, labeling the actress’s remarks as “false, reckless and deliberately aimed at distorting the facts”. According to the senator’s camp, Ann Izuegbu Anthonet was detained on publicly defamatory charges, accusing her in particular of having physically assaulted his wife, Laila Nwoko, and causing a miscarriage, allegations described as “totally false”.

The statement goes further, accusing Ann of involvement in serious acts, including manipulation and distribution of illegal substances, as well as the alleged organization of an illegal abortion. Nwoko’s entourage asserts that a formal complaint had been filed as early as October 2025 and insists: “This is not a dispute on social media, but a matter for the law enforcement authorities, based on evidence, testimonies and the respect for legal procedures.”

Amid this already explosive context, Regina Daniels acknowledged the existence of arrest warrants issued against her, as well as members of her family, in a separate case of alleged theft. A private dispute, marked by mutual accusations of violence and dependency, that the Nwoko family is now asking to be left in the hands of the authorities.
