Nations League: Šeško ruled out, Slovenia loses striker ahead of Scotland clash

Slovenia will begin its Nations League campaign without Benjamin Šeško. The 23-year-old striker, who sustained a shin injury while with Manchester United, has left the squad and will miss all four matches during this international window.

The Slovenian Football Association confirmed on September 22 that Šeško will focus on his recovery following the re-emergence of pain in his shin. Slovenia will host Scotland on September 26 in Ljubljana, followed by a match against North Macedonia on September 29, before traveling to Switzerland on October 3 and Scotland on October 6. The forward has scored 16 goals in 45 appearances.

Manchester United had already excluded Šeško from the squad for the 1-1 draw against Fulham. The player experienced discomfort after the League Cup match against Brighton. The English club announced that examinations would take place this week before determining his individual recovery plan, without providing a return date.

Head coach Boštjan Cesar will also have to manage without striker Niko Prelec and defender Žan Zaletel. Jure Balkovec and Žan Celar have been called up to complete the squad ahead of the Nations League opener.
