Mali-Algeria: Sifi Ghrieb expected in Bamako with a message from Tebboune

Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb is expected in Bamako on Monday, September 14, at the invitation of his Malian counterpart Abdoulaye Maïga, for an official visit aimed at revitalizing dialogue between Mali and Algeria. He is set to deliver a message from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to the Transition President, Assimi Goïta.

According to the Malian government, Sifi Ghrieb will be received by Assimi Goïta and will hold a working session with Abdoulaye Maïga. Bamako indicates that the discussions are intended to strengthen direct dialogue based on mutual respect and the preservation of each state’s interests.

This visit comes three weeks after Abdoulaye Maïga’s working visit to Algiers on August 24. During that occasion, the Malian government head was also received by Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in a sequence described as a revitalization of bilateral relations.

The Malian statement specifies that both countries aim to strengthen their cooperation in areas of mutual interest for the benefit of their populations. It does not detail, at this stage, the list of issues that will be discussed during the talks in Bamako.

The Algerian delegation is reported to be of high level. The announced agenda includes an audience with Assimi Goïta and a working meeting between the two Prime Ministers during the day.
