Liverpool: Wayne Rooney announces the end of the Mohamed Salah era as early as this summer
Wayne Rooney believes that Mohamed Salah is nearing the end of his cycle at Liverpool, convinced that the Egyptian forward has already passed the peak of his career.

The former England international Wayne Rooney believes that Mohamed Salah is approaching the end of his cycle at Liverpool and that the end of the Egyptian forward’s era is looming as early as this summer. In The Wayne Rooney Show, the former Manchester United striker explains that he has been closely watching Salah’s performances, notably during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco. In his view, the Reds’ player no longer displays the same physical qualities as at the peak of his career.
“His era will end at the end of this season,” Rooney said. “I have followed his matches at AFCON and his speed, his explosive power are no longer what they used to be. This is not a criticism; it’s the natural cycle that all players go through.”
The former captain of the Three Lions nuances his remarks by paying tribute to the Egyptian’s journey: “All that Salah has brought to Liverpool and to the Premier League is exceptional. He is without a doubt one of the greatest players in the history of the league.” According to Rooney, if the decline is real, it does not take away from the legacy left by the Reds’ star.
