Lamine Yamal: “Mbappé and I are the two best in the world”
The young prodigy of FC Barcelona, Lamine Yamal, believes that he forms the leading duo in world football with Kylian Mbappé. However, the Spaniard mainly considers that his performances from last season justify him being awarded the Ballon d’Or ahead of the Real Madrid striker.
Lamine Yamal did not hide his ambitions when discussing the race for the Ballon d’Or. In an interview with Movistar, the FC Barcelona winger placed Kylian Mbappé alongside him at the top of the global hierarchy, while claiming the top spot for himself. “Kylian Mbappé and I are the two best in the world,” said the Spanish international. He then added, without hesitation: “But I think I deserve to win the Ballon d’Or.”
The two players are among the 30 contenders for the prestigious trophy this year. Yamal can particularly rely on a notably rich season with Barça, marked by successes in La Liga and the Copa del Rey, as well as a world title with Spain. Mbappé also boasts an impressive individual record. The Real Madrid forward finished as the top scorer in the Champions League, La Liga, and the World Cup, thus strengthening his case for the ultimate individual award. The duel between the two stars is therefore expected to attract significant attention. At just 19 years old, Yamal is already fully embracing his ambitions in the face of a Mbappé who has been established among the references of world football for several years.
