Julie Andrews, 90, wins a new Emmy for Bridgerton

Julie Andrews, 90, won the Emmy for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance on Sunday, September 6, in Los Angeles for her portrayal of Lady Whistledown in Bridgerton. The British actress thus secured a second consecutive trophy in this category thanks to the Netflix series.

The Television Academy confirms that the 2026 award was given to Julie Andrews for the episode The Waltz. Her record now includes four Emmy Awards from a total of thirteen nominations, while Bridgerton has accumulated seven Emmy wins.

Absent from the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony held at the Peacock Theater, the actress had the award accepted on her behalf by actor Eric Bauza. She was notably competing against Pamela Adlon for King of the Hill, Hank Azaria for The Simpsons, Trey Parker for South Park, Matt Vogel for The Muppet Show, and Steven Yeun for Invincible.

This new accolade comes a few weeks after Julie Andrews explained that she no longer really wishes to take on screen roles. However, she specified that she is not fully retired and continues to work on books, podcasts, and voiceovers, a choice directly illustrated by her role as narrator in Bridgerton.

Lady Whistledown, an iconic role

Julie Andrews has lent her voice to Lady Whistledown since the launch of Bridgerton. She had already won the same category in 2025 for the episode Into The Light, making her 2026 victory a consecutive double.

The two Creative Arts Emmys evenings on September 5 and 6 preceded the main ceremony of the 78th Emmy Awards, scheduled for September 14. Widow’s Bay notably dominated this first round of awards with eight trophies, ahead of several other productions already recognized before the big televised event.

Julie Andrews’ success comes as the actress has also confirmed that she will not reprise her role as Queen Clarisse in The Princess Diaries 3. She remains active, however, in voice and editorial projects, extending a career that began more than seven decades ago.
