Stonebwoy–Sarkodie: Tensions Rise on X, Rapper Denies Targeting His Colleague

A message intended to calm fan wars turned into a public explanation between two heavyweights of Ghanaian music. On Tuesday, September 8, 2026, Stonebwoy called out Sarkodie on X, before receiving a detailed response from the rapper.

Initially, Sarkodie asked his community, SarkNation, to support his music without belittling other artists or fueling online rivalries. A rather conciliatory stance, but one that clearly stirred up an older disagreement with Stonebwoy.

Stonebwoy brings a private conversation back to the table

In a lengthy message posted on X, Stonebwoy reflected on several private exchanges with Sarkodie. The singer explained that he called his colleague after his concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London to congratulate him. He also stated that another, longer conversation then took place about behavior in the industry, relationships between artists, and the concept of principle.

According to Stonebwoy, Sarkodie then explained to him that no artist could be forced to adopt a particular course of action and that everyone manages their relationships according to their interests and choices. It is this interpretation that the singer opposed to the recent call for calm made to SarkNation, summarizing his position with a phrase: without principle, advice remains an opinion.

Stonebwoy also suggested that he perceived certain content posted by Sarkodie after his own concert at the OVO Arena Wembley as ambiguous messages. However, he did not claim to have proof that these posts were directly intended for him.

Sarkodie rejects the interpretation

Sarkodie’s response was swift. The rapper disputed the narrative that he said artists should simply “play along” when it suits them. He insists that his words were distorted and reiterates that he never posted a message with the intention of targeting Stonebwoy.

Sarkodie, however, acknowledges that the two men do not approach disagreements in the same way. He says he explained to Stonebwoy that everyone is free to forgive, forget, or not certain situations, but it is not possible to impose this way of doing things on others.

To show that he harbors no particular hostility towards his colleague, Sarkodie recalls having invited him to his RAH show, having praised several of his achievements, and having already considered joint stage projects. The tone of his response remains firm, but he presents the disagreement as a difference in perception rather than a definitive break.

The exchange was quickly picked up by several Ghanaian media outlets and discussed on social networks. It primarily illustrates the difficulty for the country’s most followed artists to remain distant from the tensions maintained by their digital communities.

The two stars have simply publicly presented different versions of a private conversation and how they interpret the messages posted online.
