Ghana: NDC to open nominations for internal elections on September 15

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) of Ghana will open nominations for constituency executive positions on Tuesday, September 15, marking a new phase in its internal election schedule that will continue until the national congress planned for December.

According to a notice from the party’s national secretariat, candidates for constituency positions will be able to enter the process starting September 15. Candidates, their proposers, and their supporters must be registered members and have paid their dues for the past four years.

The NDC has also launched campaign activities for candidates seeking constituency, regional, and national executive roles. However, the party specifies that this authorization does not apply to individuals pursuing or considering parliamentary ambitions, including sitting Members of Parliament.

The official schedule sets the constituency executive elections for October 24 and 25, followed by regional elections on November 14 and 15. The national congress, which will elect national officials, is scheduled for December 19.

The NDC, the party of President John Dramani Mahama, also regulates the eligibility of certain public officials wishing to run for positions within the party. Its official guidelines include resignation deadlines for various categories of government or administrative office holders.

The nomination and payment processes are centralized on the party’s digital platform. The NDC states that its internal process aims to renew constituency, regional, and national structures before the end of the political year in Ghana.
