Ghana: Growth Reaches 6% in the Second Quarter 2026
Ghana's economy grew by 6% year-on-year in the second quarter 2026. The surge in information, communication, and technology, up by 30.9%, was the main contributor to this growth.

The economy of Ghana grew by 6.0% year-on-year in the second quarter 2026, according to official data released Wednesday 9 September in Accra. The growth was mainly driven by information, communication, and technology sectors, whose activity surged by 30.9%.
The pace remains strong, although it is lower than the 6.6% recorded in the second quarter 2025. In the first quarter 2026, the gross domestic product had increased by 6.4%, according to the Ghana Statistical Service.
The information, communication, and technology sector accounted for 41.5% of the total growth for the quarter. Government statistician Alhassan Iddrisu noted that this sector has posted double-digit growth every quarter for the past three years.
In detail, services grew by 8.0% and contributed 57.6% to overall growth. Industry advanced by 4.3%, while agriculture increased by 3.9%, indicating uneven expansion across the main branches of the economy.
Oil and gas production rose by 21.4% over the period, contributing to industrial recovery. Conversely, fishing activity contracted by 24.7%, according to data presented by the Ghana Statistical Service.
For the entire first half of 2026, growth reached 6.2%. Non-oil GDP grew by 5.4% in the second quarter and by 5.9% over the first six months of the year.
The slowdown in inflation accompanies this expansion: consumer price increases stood at 5.0% year-on-year in August, down from 54.1% in December 2022, at the peak of the debt crisis. In July, the International Monetary Fund completed the final review of the 3 billion dollar support program granted to Ghana.
