Covè: Several suspects arrested after monitored motorcycle sale

Several individuals suspected of involvement in armed motorcycle thefts have been arrested in Covè following an operation triggered by the sale of a suspicious motorcycle. The first suspect was apprehended on September 10, 2026, in Bagon, within the Lainta-Cogbé district, while meeting with a buyer who was actually an undercover police officer, according to the General Directorate of the Republican Police.

The investigation began after a recent armed robbery was reported in the Houin-Hounso district. Intelligence services from the Covè police station learned that a man known to law enforcement was looking to quickly sell a motorcycle. A meeting was then arranged and placed under surveillance.

The suspect arrived with a red Bajaj motorcycle. According to the police, he was unable to provide any documentation to establish its legitimate origin. Officers positioned at the scene arrested him and continued their investigation into his contacts.

Multiple arrests in Dékpada

According to the official account, the man then led investigators to his home in Dékpada. He contacted several individuals identified as his alleged accomplices, misleading them into believing he wanted to share the proceeds from the sale. Several of them arrived at the location and were subsequently arrested.

The individual identified by the police as the main suspect in the group did not show up for the meeting and remains at large. No specific number of those arrested has been provided in the official report.

Investigators also reported recovering a second motorcycle linked to another armed robbery. The vehicle has been taken to the police station for procedural purposes.

At this stage, those arrested remain suspects, and their culpability will need to be established through judicial proceedings. Searches continue to locate the main suspect who failed to attend the meeting and to clarify the extent of the crimes attributed to the group.
