Case involving human remains at CNHU: prosecutors seek an eight-year prison sentence for five defendants before the CRIET.

The special public prosecutor’s office at the Court for the Repression of Economic Offenses and Terrorism (CRIET) requested, on Thursday, January 22, 2026, a sentence of eight years in prison for at least five people involved in the case of human bones found behind the Hubert Koutoukou Maga National University Hospital Center (CNHU-HKM), reports Libre Express.

The case dates back to late February 2025, when human remains were found in a wooded area behind the CNHU-HKM morgue. Several hospital staff, including morgue attendants and a hearse driver, had been arrested and brought before CRIET as part of this complex case.

During the opening of the trial in April 2025, twelve people had been summoned before the special court for acts related to “abuse of office and complicity in abuse of office,” allegations brought against them in two files that had been joined to the proceedings. Some of the defendants had pleaded not guilty before the judges.

This new development, with a request for eight years in prison against a group of five defendants, comes as the criminal procedure continues before CRIET. The court is seized of the elements of the investigation and will rule later on the guilt or not of the accused, following the debates and pleadings.
