CAN 2027 Qualifiers: Rohr takes a jab at Amir Abdou after a revealed confidence before Burkina Faso-Benin
Gernot Rohr had not forgotten. Before the 1-1 draw between Burkina Faso and Benin, the coach of the Squirrels took a jab at Amir Abdou after the public revelation of information he had shared privately.
SUMMARY
The incident dates back to the preparation for the match. Amir Abdou had mentioned that he spoke with Rohr and learned from him about the absence of Steve Mounié, even before Benin announced their squad publicly.
At a press conference, Rohr reacted with a smile but did not hide his annoyance: “When we talk among colleagues, it should stay among colleagues.” He also clarified that he would not have made a similar confidence public.
The Franco-German, however, downplayed the matter, assuring that he mainly intended to “tease” his counterpart during their meeting. Nonetheless, the exchange added a bit more tension to an already highly anticipated derby.

On the field, the two teams ultimately neutralized each other. Lassina Traoré opened the scoring with a penalty for Burkina Faso before Aiyegun Tosin equalized, also from the penalty spot, for Benin.
For Rohr, the episode surrounding Steve Mounié remains particularly indicative of a boundary he intends to set in his relationships with opposing coaches.
