CAN 2027: Motsepe rules out any plan B for Tanzania

The African Football Confederation (CAF) has no plans to replace Tanzania as one of the host countries for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). Patrice Motsepe made this statement on Thursday, September 17, in Dar es Salaam, despite concerns regarding the progress of certain preparations.

The CAF president dismissed the idea of a “plan B” and assured that the organization will work with the authorities to address the areas that are still lagging behind. Tanzania is set to co-host the tournament with Kenya and Uganda.

This position comes during a CAF inspection tour in East Africa. The organization had announced an inspection of the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium and discussions with the Tanzanian government, before moving on to Kenya on Friday, September 18.

The CAN 2027 is scheduled to take place from June 19 to July 17. This will be the first edition jointly organized by the three East African countries, placing transportation, accommodations, stadiums, and training grounds at the forefront of the preparations.

Motsepe also expressed his expectation for a common visa agreement between Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda to facilitate travel for supporters during the competition. Discussions among the relevant authorities are ongoing.

The host country for the opening match has not yet been determined. The three co-hosts have submitted proposals to the CAF, which still needs to make a decision on this matter as preparations continue.
