Benin: five teachers questioned for irregular absences from their posts

Five teachers, Public Law Contract Agents of the State (ACDPE), appeared on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, before the Joint Administrative Commission of the Ministry of Maternal and Primary Education (CAP/MEMP) in Porto-Novo.

The teachers involved are accused of irregular absences from their workplace. According to the applicable regulations, this shortcoming constitutes a disciplinary fault that may lead to administrative sanctions.

The accused agents work in schools located in the school districts of Kérou, Matéri, Tanguiéta, Djougou 2, and Dassa-Zoumè. During their hearing, they were reminded of the obligations related to public service, notably rigor, attendance, and respect for professional rules.

This new series of hearings is part of the work of the Joint Administrative Commission, whose current session is set to conclude next Friday. In accordance with the procedure, the teachers heard were given the opportunity to defend themselves and to be assisted by a person of their choice.

At the end of the hearings, the commission may make proposals for sanctions that will be forwarded to the supervising minister for decision.

These hearings come a few weeks after eight other teachers faced the same commission. The latter were pursued for various professional faults, including prolonged absences and deficiencies in the performance of their duties. Educational authorities thus reaffirm their commitment to strengthening discipline and the quality of service in public educational institutions.
