The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) officially decided to challenge the sanctions imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following the incidents that occurred during the Africa Cup of Nations final played on 18 January 2016 against Senegal.

In a statement published this Tuesday, the Moroccan body said it had taken note of the decisions issued by CAF’s Disciplinary Commission, recently notified. These sanctions follow a match marked by high tensions: withdrawal of Senegalese players and staff, pitch invasion by supporters, then disturbances and riots around the stadium.

After reviewing the file, the FRMF believes that the disciplinary measures pronounced are ‘disproportionate’ in light of the allegations. A position already defended in an official letter sent by the president of the Moroccan Federation to CAF’s counterpart.

Affirming its commitment to upholding the rule of law and defending its legitimate interests, the FRMF states that it has decided to appeal these decisions, thus opening a new chapter in this sensitive African football dossier.
