With less than ten days until their start at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the Cheetahs sent a reassuring signal. Training in Benslimane, Morocco, the Beninese side registered an encouraging victory in a friendly against FUS de Rabat, a team from Morocco’s top flight.

Facing a club known for its tactical discipline in the Botola Pro, the Beninese showed seriousness and discipline to win by the smallest of margins. The difference came in the second half, when Romaric Amoussou finished a well-worked team move, meeting an assist from Akimey Adam. One goal was enough to reward an overall controlled performance.

The match also allowed the German coach to give game time to almost the entire squad already at camp. Of the 19 players called up, only goalkeeper Marcel Dandjinou remained on the bench, a logical absence since the keeper is suspended for the first official match of the competition.

Drawn in Group D, the Cheetahs know the challenge will be tough. Benin will start its campaign on December 23 against the Democratic Republic of the Congo, before facing Botswana on December 27, then Senegal — the group’s clear favorite — on December 30. Those are major dates that this friendly win helps approach with confidence and calm, as the build-up continues just days before the continental kickoff.
