World Cup 2026: Portugal in talks for a friendly against Nigeria
In preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Portugal is considering facing the Super Eagles of Nigeria on June 6 in Lisbon, in a friendly match that is currently being finalised.

Portugal could face Nigeria in a friendly ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. According to the Daily Post, the Portugal national team is considering a test against the Super Eagles, with a match scheduled for June 6.
The match is expected to take place in Lisbon, the Portuguese capital, while discussions between the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and its Portuguese counterpart continue in order to finalise the last details of the organisation. This fixture would serve as an ideal preparation for both national teams, particularly for Nigeria, which delivered notable performances at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
As a reminder, Portugal had comfortably defeated the Super Eagles (4-0) in their last friendly meeting, played in November 2022. Bruno Fernandes, Gonçalo Ramos, and João Mário had then found the back of the net for the former European champions.
