Ukraine: Washington proposes a three-way meeting with Russia in the UAE

The United States is seeking to bring together Ukrainian and Russian representatives in the United Arab Emirates to revive diplomatic efforts regarding the war in Ukraine.

On Friday, September 25, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Washington had proposed a technical three-way format. The UAE is being considered as the host location, but Kyiv is still awaiting a U.S. proposal regarding the date.

On the same day, the Kremlin claimed that a trilateral meeting involving Ukraine and the United States could take place soon. However, this agreement in principle lacks a timeline or public confirmation from U.S. or Emirati authorities.

This initiative follows discussions between Zelensky and Donald Trump on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Ukrainian and American negotiators have since been working on the details. The Ukrainian president indicated that Washington must consult Moscow before a new assessment of the situation within ten days.

According to Zelensky, discussions also focus on a mutual cessation of strikes targeting energy infrastructure and the reopening of the grain corridor in the Black Sea. Kyiv has expressed its willingness to suspend attacks on Russian energy facilities if Moscow makes the same commitment.
