Toviklin: they offer human blood to a dignitary, the police intervene and arrest them
Two young men were arrested in Kakpouihoué, a locality in the town of Toviklin in the Couffo department, for an alleged attempt at human organ trafficking. The events unfolded on Friday, June 20, 2025.
According to initial information, the two individuals reportedly approached a religious dignitary in the area with the proposition to sell a human heart and a flask containing blood, which the suspects presented as being of human origin.
Alerted to the severity of the proposition, the dignitary quickly contacted law enforcement authorities. The police, informed of the situation, organized an operation which resulted in the immediate arrest of the two young men.
The individuals are now in police custody, and legal proceedings are underway. They are expected to be brought before the courts in the coming days to answer for the alleged crimes.
Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched to identify the exact source of the organs presented and to verify the possible existence of a structured criminal network behind this attempted sale.
Local authorities reiterate that organ trafficking is a particularly serious crime, punishable by Beninese law, and call on the public to be highly vigilant against such practices.
