Arsenal has reached an agreement with Mikel Arteta to extend his contract until 2030, according to multiple British media reports on Tuesday, September 22. The Spanish manager, whose previous deal was set to expire in June 2027, remains committed to the reigning English champions.
The agreement includes a salary increase and is yet to be officially announced by the club, as reported by the Guardian and Sky Sports. Arteta, 44, indicated in August that he wished to stay in London and that discussions would naturally resolve with the management.
Since arriving in December 2019, Arteta has led Arsenal to the Premier League title for the 2025-2026 season, the club’s first since 2004. This victory came after three consecutive seasons finishing in second place in the league.
The extension comes three days after the 3-0 defeat to Brighton, marking the Gunners’ first loss of the season following four consecutive league victories. Arsenal currently has 12 points after five matches and sits in second place on goal difference.
In May, co-owner Josh Kroenke had identified Arteta’s extension as a club priority. The new contract will replace the agreement signed in 2024, which was set to expire at the end of the 2026-2027 season.
