Liberia: Boakai appoints two interim officials at the Ministry of Justice

Liberian President Joseph Boakai has appointed Betty M. Lamin-Blamo as interim Minister of Justice and Attorney General, along with Abraham Boimah Sillah as interim Solicitor General, effective September 11, 2026.

According to the Liberian presidency, both officials will serve in an interim capacity pending their confirmation by the Senate, which is expected to reconvene in October. The executive branch presents these appointments as a measure to ensure continuity at the Ministry of Justice.

Boakai had previously announced on September 2 the appointment of Lamin-Blamo as Minister of Justice and Sillah as Solicitor General. However, the nominations requiring parliamentary confirmation could not be finalized before the Senate resumed its sessions.

The transition at the ministry was prepared as early as September 3 during a meeting at the presidency with the outgoing and incoming teams. Outgoing Minister Oswald N. Tweh and outgoing Solicitor General Augustine Fayiah agreed to remain in their positions for one week to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities.

FrontPageAfrica reports that Lamin-Blamo received the handover documents during a ceremony held on September 10 at the Ministry of Justice. She pledged to lead the institution with integrity, fairness, and impartiality.

The presidency indicated on September 2 that Tweh and Fayiah would be reassigned to other state functions following the transition.
