Kenya Power: 411,710 new customers, KSh 25 billion profit

Kenya Power reported a net profit of KSh 24.99 billion for the fiscal year 2025/26, which ended on June 30, marking a 2.13% increase year-on-year. The electricity distributor attributes this growth to higher sales across all customer categories and the addition of 411,710 new subscribers.

Electricity sales rose by 12.05% to reach 12,777 GWh, compared to 11,403 GWh in the previous fiscal year. Revenue from electricity increased by KSh 18.96 billion, totaling KSh 238.24 billion.

Kenya Power also improved the efficiency of its distribution and transmission networks, which increased from 78.79% to 81.42%. This improvement coincides with the revenue protection measures implemented by the company to limit losses and enhance collections.

Financing costs decreased by 34.68% to KSh 3.08 billion, primarily due to lower interest expenses associated with reduced debt levels. Total assets also rose by KSh 32.45 billion, reaching KSh 421.49 billion.

The company allocated KSh 28 billion to its investments during the fiscal year. Its working capital position improved from a deficit of KSh 19.21 billion on June 30, 2025, to a surplus of KSh 1.90 billion a year later.

The board of directors has recommended a final dividend of KSh 1.20 per share. With an interim dividend of KSh 0.30 already paid, the total proposed dividend for the fiscal year amounts to KSh 1.50 per share.
