The American rapper Kanye West has once again publicly apologized after his antisemitic remarks, rekindling a matter that continues to provoke strong reactions. Titled “To Those I Have Hurt,” these apologies were published on Monday in the print edition of the Wall Street Journal. In this hand-signed statement, the artist says he wants to take responsibility for his past words while providing some context about his health.

Kanye West specifically discusses the consequences of a serious car accident that occurred twenty-five years ago. “Twenty-five years ago, I had a car accident that fractured my jaw and caused a lesion in the right frontal lobe of my brain“, he wrote, before noting that no thorough diagnosis had been made at the time. According to him, this lesion would only have been identified in 2023, a medical negligence that would have “gravely affected [his] mental health” and led to a diagnosis of bipolar I disorder.

According to the Daily Mail, the publication specifies that these apologies were “funded by Yeezy“, the brand founded by the artist. The Daily Post also notes that this new outspokenness comes nearly three years after the rejection of previous apologies by the Jewish organization StopAntisemitism, which had at the time deemed his approach insufficient.
